Friday Roundup #6

1. Apple Picking

One of my favorite fall activities is apple picking. I usually go into the mountains in VA with my family, but seeing as I'm at school, I was unsure if I would be able to go this year. Flash forward to fall break, when my roommate kindly invited me up to her home just outside NYC. Last Friday we decided to Silverman's Farm in Easton, CT to pick apples. It was so much fun and I loved getting to keep up my fall tradition!

2. Midterm Season

Backtracking a little bit, the last week before fall break was my midterm week. I was lucky in that I only had one true "exam" for my Experimental Psychology class, and papers/projects due as a midterm for my other courses. That's not to say that it isn't a challenge to balance big projects that are all due at once, but it was such a relief to have only one written exam to study for. I took my Psyc midterm on Monday and got my results back on Wednesday (a super quick turnaround!). While I wasn't feeling super confident walking out of the exam, I actually ended up doing far better than I expected and it was a great confidence boost.

3. Visiting the Big Apple

On our first day of break (last Thursday) we took a short train ride into the city. After a quick lunch just outside Grand Central, we walked up Madison Ave, popping into a few stores and just taking in the scenery. We also made a pit stop at Lauderee and shared a few macaroons. I'd never been to a Lauderee before, but it was such a great experience! The service was amazing and the macaroons were, of course, delicious. As we were making our way toward the Natural History Museum, we actually ran into (of all people) my peer advisor, who was waiting for her Uber outside her apartment on 5th Ave. Seeing someone you know in NYC is always such a funny experience -- definitely a "what are the odds" moment -- but it was great to see her! We ended the evening with dinner at Mandoo in Koreatown and then headed home. It was the perfect way to spend the day, and so nice to go into NYC, as it's a place I don't get to as often as I'd like.

4. NPR Politics Podcast

Adjusting to college can sometimes be a challenge. One of the things that I've learned is that although you'll be on a new schedule at school, it's important to keep some of the routines you had at home. Personally, I listened to NPR all the time when I was at home. I loved having the news on in the background while I did homework, drove, or did chores. At college, I don't have a radio, but I've started listening to the NPR shows in podcast form on my phone on my walks to and from class. My favorite is definitely the Politics Podcast; I love their analysis and it feels great to stay informed!

5. Outlet Shopping

Aside from apple picking and city tripping, my roommate and I also went to Woodbury Commons for some outlet shopping! There aren't any outlets near my home, so it was a treat to be able to go and search for some good deals. We happened to go right in the midst of the Columbus Day sales, which made it even better! I got a few goodies from Kate Spade (at 70% off -- can you believe it?) and Brooks Brothers that will fill some gaps in my winter wardrobe.

Hope your week went well!
