dress: J.Crew (old, also love this option and this option) // clutch: Vineyard Vines (old, similar here and here) // Penn necklace: Kyle Cavan // monogram necklace: Etsy // shoes: J.Crew (old, similar) // sunglasses: Karen Walker
Before heading off to the wine and cheese night, my brother and I spent some time together walking through Georgetown, where we snapped the photos above. It's been so unbelievably hot here (today it got up to 98 degrees - I feel like I'm melting), so dresses and skirts have been my go-to when I'm not lying out in a swimsuit. This dress from J.Crew made its debut in my summer wardrobe this year; I picked it up second-hand (I missed out on buying it when it was sold in stores two years ago) and I've been waiting for the hot weather to pull it out. I think it's so fun, carefree and, best of all, super comfortable. It's made of a cotton-linen blend, which is hands-down the best fabric for hot days - it's not as wrinkle-prone as linen, but with all the same lightweight airiness that is a must in the heat. I also love the fun ruffle sleeve detail and french clip-dot accents!
I paired the dress with backless mules, everyday jewelry and a wicker clutch that adds a summery touch to any outfit. And, perhaps the star of the look - these amazing sunnies from Karen Walker! Nordstrom Rack just got a bunch of KW's styles, which is where I purchased this pair at a steep discount. The brand must be phasing out several styles from their line! If you're in the market for a high-quality pair of classic, yet statement-making shades, I would definitely recommend checking out the KW offering, especially the styles that are currently on sale. Personally, I find many sunglasses to be too small for my face, but I love that Karen Walker's line seems to be made to be truly oversized. I also bought a pair of aviator shades that have yet to arrive; I'm excited to see whether I like them!
Hope your summer is off to a fantastic start!
